He adapted Arlene's writings into plays, and now they have become a book series: Sioux Center Sudan, Iowa Ethiopia, and Zambia Home.

This third book in the trilogy covers the final decade of Arlene's career, starting with the birth of a nation and passing through the death of Arlene's mother. Arlene grapples with radically changing infrastructures and the Zambianization of medicine. Then, as she nears the end of her career, the HTLV-3 virus stuns the world. Jeff Barker (MFA, Univeristy of South Dakota) is Professor Emeritus of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Jeff continues to teach doctoral students at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. Among his many awards, his historical drama Kin: The Trial of Carrie Buck won the Iowa Playwright's Competition, and he was named the Iowa Professor of the Year. His other books include Performing the Plays of the Bible, authored with Thomas Boogaart.
