More than 2,000 years ago Jesus Christ walked among us. The crowds that gathered around Him heard truth-filled stories that they pondered long afterward. Truths that their spiritually famished hearts needed. Truths about living righteously before God that our hearts today need to hear. James Scudder believes that Christ's parables in the book of Mark reveal thirty-one principles that will help you experience spiritual growth. These principles guide you to exercise your faith, have a joy-filled life, and confidently tell others about Christ. Divided into twelve harmonious chapters, this pastor's work is practical, relevant, and upbeat. Scudder includes a section that recaps each chapter's points and offers an exercise for each principle-- plus tips for practice and prayer-- so that, whether you're studying the Word by yourself or with a group of believers, your spiritual life may successfully grow in the eternal ways that matter most.
I did not "hate" this book; I found it difficult to read, due to switching back and forth between explanations. The book is not logically arranged -- it leaves the reader searching for a conclusion to the Biblical facts that were presented.
Maximize Your Spiritual Growth

I really enjoyed this book and think it is a classic primer for Christian growth. I suspect that many Sunday-School teachers will feature this as a source for their classes, because of its easy-to-read nature and its point-by-point explanation of the Christian life. This book covers it all and yet it is a very stimulating read. Dr. Scudder has a fantastic way of weaving personal narratives in with the teachings of Jesus. He gives 31 keys to living life, what he terms, "parable principles." The best thing about Dr. Scudder is that he preaches biblical truth in a way that can related to everybody. He's not professing platitudes. If you want to begin the journey towards spiritual completeness, I suggest you make a small investment and add this book to your nightstand.
