Born in 1874 in England, Winston Churchill was one of the greatest political figures of the twentieth century. As a child, Churchill did not enjoy school, but loved to learn about history. He was interested in all things military and wanted to become a politician. Instead of attending university, Churchill went to a military college. He served as a soldier after his graduation in 1894, traveling to Cuba, India, and the Sudan. Churchill won his first political post in 1900 and served in several government positions before becoming the prime minister of Great Britain in 1940.
