A good place to start for beginners

This is an excellent book for beginner C++ programmers. Although it covers little about the actual Visual C++, it introduces you the C++ language in a creative way so that a real beginner can readily understand what object-oriented programming really is. After having read this book, I felt quite comfortable jumping up to intermediate Visual C++ books. This book is an absolute starting point for beginners.

This book was great. It was an excellent introduction to the complicated language of C++. My only complaint would be the lack of discussion on MFC classes. All in all it is great for beginners. PICK IT UP.

Visual C++ 5.0 for Dummies is an excellent book not only for beginning C++/Visual C++ programmers, but also for more experienced C++ programmers who may need some handy "refresher" on some basic concepts of object-oriented programming. The authors are excellent writers--very clear and direct to the point! An underrated book, but an excellent reference for all programming levels.
A must-have for any beginning C++ developer!

This book teaches you everything that you need to know and it's so down-to-earth that you don't have to spend time reading over things because you can't understand them. If you're just beginning, try out this book, it's worthwhile!
