The programmer s tutorial/reference on Java 1.2 that contains detailed descriptions of Sun s Java 1.2 standards, APIs, class libraries, and programming toolsCovers major third-party products like... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is very good. I have many Java books on my desk but this one is definitely getting a bit more worn than the others. This volume is large and has examples on just about everything I need to know. The author seems to have taken two different approaches to this book. The first dozen or so chapters read as if you will start at the begining and go to the end. After that all the complex topics appear as entities unto themselves. This makes it quite easy to jump to specific topic and get your questions answered. There are errors in this book, like all the other books in this category, but I've found that the errors here are easy to spot, and haven't hurt me at all. Plus I wrote to the author and received a very helpful response on a topic I needed more detail on.
A1 book, good for a reference, good for Java 1.0/1.1 devl.

Using Java 1.2 Special Ed. is a great book to own, buy and use. A must for serious developers/ enthusiasts of Java. This updates about a lot of new fields Java has grown in and the examples are better than Using Java 1.1 which were cooked-up examples containing 1.0 code... (I didnt like Using 1.1 much though its content was good enough for the time it was published). I recommend this book strongly and recommend a hard-cover for full-time Java 1.2 developers :)
Great book!

Take a deep breath. This book contains everything but the kitchen sink. I bought the book because of the coverage of RMI and custom sockets, but have since found that the book contains a wealth of information. I'm very impressed. Like all books there are a couple of typos, but by and far it's a clean book. As somebody who is already quite familiar with Java, it's rare that I find a book with so many good examples.
WOW, anything you ever wanted to know about Java

The author is clearly a leader in his field. His extensive knowledge combined with a very friendly writing style make learning Java a breeze for beginners. Java experts will find the easy to navigate layout and the extensive index make this an excellent reference text. The book gives a good deal of coverage to all the topics it takes on. No Java developer should be without this book on their shelves.
