I recently read Traplines and was very impressed. I really liked the fact that she didn't tip toe around anything, her stories were right in your face. They were dark and mysterious; even humourous at times.
Your problems are child's play in retrospect to these!

Just when you thought that these peoples problems couldn't get any worse, they do. Eden makes you realize the misfortunes of others and the horrors of many peoples lives.
Canadian proof we're as werid and eccentric as anyone else.

Four stories so magnetic you feel exhausted after finishing--this is Traplines. The saleswoman who sold this to me in a quaint little bookstore in Victoria said this, "Tarantino comes to British Columbia." Enough said. This is the underbelly of BC, the Vancouver, the reserves, the small towns that exist, but no one writes about, until now. This is a superb collection of stories that might just push Canadian authors into the mainstream yet.

Traplines is an excellent book. Eden Robinson should write more, because her ability to find a correct treatment for a character or subject is amazing. If you are smart, you will like this book.

In TRAPLINES, Eden Robinson gives us four stories set on a Haisla reservation in British Columbia. The stories feature children from lower-income families that are cramped into small apartments, and others with big houses that are well stocked with two cars, VCRs, and the like. Robinson captures what it is like to grow up as an underprivileged youth in a troubled family, but avoids being judgmental or "preachy".
