Despite the differences between their stations in life, Emma finds overwhelming passion and a fateful love with Gideon, heir to Hawaii's wealthiest cattle dynasty. By the author of Enchanted.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I enjoyed this book more than I could ever have imagined. Rather that read it, I listened to it on audio cassette and found that this was the perfect book with which to do that. The story takes place in Hawaii and by listening to it, I felt as though I was beginning to learn a new language when the author used beautiful hawaiian words. The story is of Emma, a girl with a childhood that she would love to leave behind but unfortunately keeps haunting her. She meets and falls deeply and quickly in love with Gideon but before the summer is over, Gideon must leave for Harvard in the states. They promise to wait for one another but on Gideons return trip seven years later, he hears a false rumor that Emma has married. Distraught, Gideon gets drunk and is then tricked into taking a bride of his own. The rest of the story is their struggle to find their way back to one another. It is a beautiful story that takes place around the time of the Civil War, and includes a bit of American and Hawaiian history as well as wonderful descriptions of the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. You too will surely enjoy the romance and excitement that this book contains! It would make a beautiful and unique movie!
