Back in the day, Jasmine Brown had wanted heartthrob Drake Whitcomb in the worst way. But to him she was his best friend's baby sister and off-limits. Years later when Jasmine got the chance to work in Drake's veterinarian practice halfway across the country, she jumped on it. She'd finally have Drake's attention She'd also have a chance to meet the father she'd never known. Hoping to help Jasmine heal the rift with her family, Drake was stunned by the explosive desire he suddenly felt when they worked together. Even though she still had way too much attitude, he found himself irresistibly drawn to the sassy, sexy beauty....
THEN COMES LOVE starts out as just a romance story, but somewhere along the way it morphs into something more significant. Jasmine Brown has been unhappy since her parents divorced, her mother remarried and her father literally abandoned her. Her stepfather was nice enough, but her step-siblings were cruel and insensitive. Jasmine detached herself from the family and left home immediately after her high school graduation. Her one pleasant memory of growing up is Drake Whitcomb, her stepbrother's friend from college. Years later, Jasmine has an opportunity to work in Drake's veterinarian practice which takes her from California to Virginia. Finally, she can put her blighted past behind her. When she arrives in Virginia, she realizes what she thought were teenage emotions have not gone away. What she doesn't know is that Drake didn't just happen to select her for the job. And as he tries to help mend the rift between her estranged family, he awakens emotions he also thought were buried. Drake's life is further complicated because of two secrets: one is about Jasmine's biological father, and the other is a secret he cannot reveal until he is sure of her feelings. As I mentioned earlier, THEN COMES LOVE is more than a romance, it is a beguiling story about artificial insemination, and its positive and negative fallout. There were issues about the secondary characters, that were not resolved, but this was not their story. This was Jasmine's story and it was told from the emotional side of what she had endured. It made me look at sterility, on both sides, with a broader understanding. Kudos to Ms. Poarch for taking the edge off this extremely sensitive subject, and still keeping it human.
