It is written through the eyes of a 13-year-old teenager, Danny Collins, and tells of life on a large working ranch in the Western Nevada desert and of his frequent and frightening encounters with two ruthless ex-convicts, Jake Dalton and Bernie McCoy, who were employed at the ranch.
