Wilson the Pug, everyone's favourite canine Taoist, has fallen in love. His soul mate, Hedy, with her wrinkly skin and floppy ears, is a real looker. But what the lovable Wilson thinks is a fellow pug is actually a mastiff puppy. After trying with little success to appear more like a big dog (by lifting weights, practising his bark, and trying to smooth out his wrinkles), Wilson is heartbroken. But once again, the wisdom of the Tao sets him straight: The Master acts on what he feels and not what he sees.' It's what's inside that really counts.'
The Ugly Pugling is a heartwarming, charming and funny story. It's a great book because it's silmultaneously entertaining to adults and children, and as a teacher to young kids I really appreciate that. The pictures and the design are excellent. I highly recommend this book for dog lovers and non-dog lovers alike.

I picked up a copy of "The Ugly Pugling" at a Pug event in early December, and I must say it's a joy! The story is sweet and the photographs are hilarious and adorable! I have all four Wilson the Pug books, and love them all!

This is the best of the bunch -- I have all of Wilson's books -- that this is a real triumph. This book is a must for Xmas -- or, of course Valentine's, but don't wait that long! What a wonderful, wonderful book!!!
Their Best Book Yet

I really loved this book. It has a wonderful lesson of acceptance and love over glamour and looks. It also has some really funny pictures, and lots of shots of dogs' sweet eyes looking lovingly. The pug is both vulnerable and wise, and the dog he loves is generous and unwavering in her feelings for him. He goes through the worst and the best emotions, as we all do in love, but in the end his passion and intelligence allow him to rise above his trevails. I wish we all had such a storybook romance!
A Truly Thoughful, Yet Entertaining Book

We just received the book...what a treat!!! It is absolutely wonderful! I read the book first, cover to cover, taking it all in, and then my mom did the same. The story turned out great! I thought it was humorous and endearing...And all the pictures are so nice. Some of the pictures in particular provided big belly laughs, especially the one with Wilson yelling through the bullhorn on the police car--too cute! The Ugly Pugling is everything I expected (and more)! The author, Nancy Levine, should give herself a huge pat on the back for creating such a delightful book. The Ugly Pugling teaches all of us such an important lesson in life and at the same time it manages to tickle our funny bone! Thank you, Nancy, for putting big smiles on our faces with this book, and again, for finding us and including our dogs in your book!
