I almost chose not read this book because there was not a single review to guide my choice. I'm glad I took a chance and read it. What a fresh look at the life of the aristocracy and how mother's arranged marriages for their young sons and daughters. If you are looking for "romantic escapades-the vivid kind" this book will not satisfy you; yet there are four or five marriages that take place by the time the book closes. Romance is alive in this book, just not how you might expect it. There were many moments where Ms. Bingham explained questions I had about this period in history. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover. After reading this book, I am happy the aristocracy has diminished in stature; self inflicted. The movie, "The Duchess" is another good example of the unappealing side of upper realm.
