Book Overview

Continuing and developing the argument of Deborah Lupton's The Imperative of Health, the authors use contemporary socio-cultural and political theory to examine: the notion of citizenship; the concept of the healthy citizen; the healthy cities project; and community participation.

Opens the door to critical anaylses in Public Health

This book hopefully breaks the ground for a new critical discourse within the practice of public health. A mandatory read for students of health promotion, epidemiology, and biostatistics. Foucaldian principles such as power diffusion are applied to the practice of public health, and its interaction with modern power structures. This book is a significant accomplishment.
