Never a dull moment in Doreen's household For cat lovers old and new - particularly those whose lives are ruled by feline fancy There's a new kid on the block... The Toveys are no strangers to disaster, particularly the Siamese-related kind, but when their beloved Solomon dies unexpectedly, they're faced with a completely new type of problem - do they find another cat to replace the one they've lost? The animals always win in the Tovey household. It is with the interests of Solomon's (very audibly) grieving sister Sheba at heart that Doreen and Charles set off in search of Solomon Secundus, affectionately known as Seeley. Joined by a myriad of endearing characters, Seeley ensures he's living up to Solomon's standards in just the amount of time it takes to fall in a fishpond... THE NEW BOY continues Doreen Tovey's memoirs about living with Siamese cats - and other animals: set in the British countryside, it is told with wit, mischief, and above all humour. 'To be sure, Miss Tovey speaks a cat person cult language but she writes amusingly of other country matters - local gossip and characters, a quite frenzied misadventure in bee keeping, and of course Annabel. For those pet owners to whom catering to animal whims is part of the fun' - Kirkus Review 'If you love cats, you'll enjoy every chapter of each book in this witty, warm-hearted collection' - Your Cat Magazine'No-one writes about cats with more wit, humour and affection than Doreen Tovey. Every word is a delight ' - The People's Friend 'Doreen has a wonderful, warm, and witty way with words that bring the personality of each cat to life and perfectly describe her love of them.' - Life With Siamese Cats 'Every so often, there comes along a book - or if you're lucky books - which gladdens the heart, cheers the soul... Just such books are those written by Doreen Tovey' - Cat WorldFELINE FROLICS SERIES Book One: Cats in the Belfry Book Two: Cats in May Book Three: Donkey Work Book Four: Raining Cats and Donkeys Book Five: The New Boy Book Six: Double Trouble Book Seven: The Coming of Saska Book Eight: A Comfort of Cats Book Nine: More Cats in the Belfry
Tovey's sequel to *Cats in May* is just as delightful as her other books. Those who loved Sheba, from *Cats in the Belfry* and *Cats in May* once again get to read about her, along with a new kitten named Seeley who is just as silly and lovable as his predecessor Solomon was. Although the book does have sad parts, Tovey's trademark humor soon reasserts itself. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes cats or just enjoys an amusing and touching story.

I began reading The New Boy in the car to my family as we were traveling. We were all immediately drawn to the hilarious antics of Ms. Tovey's Siamese cats, Sheba and Solomon. However, it wasn't long before we were facing the loss of one of her beloved cats; and thus, the New Boy (Seeley) entered the scene. From the very beginning, Seeley had a distinct way of "ruling the roost", and thereby forever changing the dynamics of his new family. Seeley created tension, anxiousness, laughter, and joy for both man and beast. If you're a cat lover, you'll experience Ms. Tovey's expert ability to make the reader recall the wonderful silliness of cats.
