Fifty years ago, a man was murdered just because he stayed in my town past sundown, his murderers tossed his body in the river. The next day, his uncle retrieved his body down the river and then heard a voice calling from the wood, "an eye for an eye and vengeance is yours". He followed the voice and took the vengeance that it offered. That night the five men responsible for the murder of his nephew were hacked to death by an axe as they slept in their beds, the first one at midnight, the next at 12:05, and then 12:10, 12:15, and the last at 12:20 a.m. in the morning. This story involves a monster that is perhaps a ghost or a demon and appears to be trapped in a hollow tree and can only be released to kill when given what it asks for. My grandpa called the monster the necro-shadow. Before my grandfather passed away, he was the town coroner and was ridiculed for believing in the monster. Grandpa warned me that the only safety from the necro-shadow was ignorance of its existence and location. For fifty years it waited to be discovered like a spider in its web. Then I told the story of the necro-shadow on a camping trip with my friends just to impress a beautiful girl. The story I told resulted in someone finding the tree, someone vile and evil.
