Can you see the moon? Does it look like a big round ball? Or is it just a sliver of light in the sky? The moon seems to change. But it doesn't really. The moon revolves around the Earth. It takes about four weeks to make the journey, and as it travels round we can only see certain parts of it. Try the simple experiment described inside using an orange, a pencil, and a flashlight, and you'll understand why the moon seems to change.
This is one of the best science readers I have ever encountered. At stage 2, it is perfect for a first or second grader, and it is interesting all the way through to adults. The illustrations are excellent and the text is clear. The book includes an experiment for your kids to do, about the phases of the moon. It's a great, simple experiment and I think we've done it four or five times. It's just a superb book.

We own numerous of these Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science books. It is a wonderful series to teach young kids about science and our world. This book fully lived up to my expectations. I even learned a few things about the phases of the moon myself! I highly recommend this book (and the series).
Best kids' book for wrapping their minds around the moon

This is by far the best short treatment I've read on moon phases for kids. The illustrations and explanations are clear and understandable, and my five -year-old is able to "wrap his brain around" the idea of the moon rotating around the earth rotating around the sun...not the most intuitive concept around. In most other similar books I've looked at, they seem to assume you can already picture it in your head...this one adds the viewers' perspective in addition to the plantet's. Very helpful.
The Moon is priceless!

This is an awesome book that can be used in the classroom when studying space, planets, and the solar system. As a huge object in the sky, the moon sparks a lot of curiosity and this book helps children understand more about it.
My almost 5 Year Old LOVES this book!

It really helps the young inquiring mind learn about the moon. My almost 5 year old always wants this read. Also it tells you how to do a demonstration to show younger kids why the moon looks the way it does, why it changes. I'm glad we got this book!
