Lots Of Fun Ideas, But Not Much In The Way Of Instruction
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
Before you buy this book I would find a copy and take a look at it in detail. While there are a lot of ideas in this book, there isn't much in the way of how-to's. [Thus it might be a good selection if you are artsy-crafty, but not so great for children working alone.] For example, the book shows you various ways to use paper mache, but there is no detail on how's-and-why's of mixing white glue with torn-up newspapers to make the basic mache material. [Some indication of how much newspaper you might need and how much glue you might want to buy would be useful.] But I don't want to give you the impression that there are no instructions. The author does show you how to fold your paper so that you can cut out snowflakes and there are instructions on how to make a wooly pompom using cardboard and yarn. Three and a half Stars. Lots of ideas, but not great for children - unless there is an adult around -- because there are not detailed instructions. Chapter headings so you can see for yourself: Glittery greetings (examples of cards) Get out your glitter (glitter and cards) Special gifts (examples of tags and stamped paper) How to print (potato and sponge stamps, etc.) Snowy bunting (examples of paper decorations on strings) How to make snowy bunting (materials needed to make paper decorations) Baubles (3D decorations) How to make baubles and stars (INSTRUCTIONS on how to make `baubles') Christmas night (examples of lanterns) Festive forest (INSTRUCTIONS for lanterns) Festive windows (examples and some idea of how to make special decorations) Winter woollies (examples of sewn felt decorations) How to stitch some woollies (INSTRUCTIONS on sewing some felt decorations) Christmas scents (examples of star anise, cinnamon, oranges, cloves, etc.) Making scents (some ideas of how to make potpourri and clove studded fruit) Sugar and spice (examples of decorated cookies) Mix up some spice (no recipe but shows how to of working/decorating cookies) Secret snowman (examples of paper mache snowmen_ Make a secret snowman (some ideas about how to make the snowmen) Sweets and treats (examples of various sweets) Making treats and gifts (how to pull together ingredients to make critters & treats) Pompoms and snowflakes (INSTRUCTIONS on how to make these) Index
