Take a fascinating, full-color, and fun tour of the sophisticated machine that is the human body. Educational and entertaining, this unique introduction to anatomy offers easy-to-understand explanations of the "hows" and "whys" of the way our bodies work. Begin with an overview of evolution to uncover the billion-year-old history of the human body. Next learn about the building blocks of your body-cells--and find out what skin has in common with rhino horns and fish scales. See how blood carries food supplies, energy, heat, and chemical messages throughout your body while simultaneously ridding it of poisonous waste. Examine the amazing "food processor" known as the digestive system and how muscles and bones hold you together but keep you flexible, too. Check out the remarkable network of nerves that "wires" your brain to the rest of your parts. Meet the "defenders"--special cells that protect you from the deadly invisible enemies intent on making you sick. Also: see how babies develop from two single cells, learn 59 amazing things your body does every minute, and much more. 128 pages (all in color), 8 1/2 x 11.
This book takes kids all the way from the big bang to the immune system in an easy to understand way. It does a great job of explaining the parts of the human body and sticking with established science. My only minor quibble is that they put smiley faces on the sperm when they explain how embryogenesis happens, whick doesn't seem to keep in tone with the rest of the book.
