I am rereading this book, after having read it when it first came out.More years ago than I care to admit to.It deals with a life style before the main focus of our lives turned to the Aids epidemic, and the friends we were loosing. It gives a better picture of what a great enviroment it was to come out and be Gay when things were first changing. It has a true insight into what many relationships are really about. But has some suprises along the way.I plan on rereading the Gordon Merrick series after this. I remember how empowering it was to read these at a time when I was just coming out,and could read a story that actually dealt with this new lifestyle I was experiencing, even if it was beyond my reach to be in the same circumstances, it instilled hope that this was something I could deal with.My first book I read was the Front Runner, and was what got me into this type of novel.I highly recommend it.It could be a current scenario, and does'nt feel like a story dated with the time it was written.A must read for young men who think they are alone in the world, and we who want to remember a time when a deadly disease wasn't a part of our everyday lives.

I loved this book ... probably the most overlooked of all Monette's work. Pre- AIDS, it's fun and frothy, with a great set of characters. A good mystery, it's also a refreshing love story aobut two men who understand each other and are totally confident in each other's love!
