-----Not just for beginners-----

In looking over the "new" books, I spotted this one and took it home. After cooking for years, it was refreshing to see recipes that I had not thought to make in a long time. Yes, some of the recipes are for dishes that I still make, (Shepherd's Pie and Macaroni and Cheese) but again it was fun to look at the variation and with one or two different ingredients give the meal a different twist. How long has it been since you've made a real Pineapple Upside-Down Cake or Pound Cake? We're so used to using the boxed mixes that it's almost a surprise to see how much better the scratch cakes are. It was like taking a refresher course in basic cooking. The chapter on Dressings lists 10 recipes and also the directions for croutons. I well remember that my Mother always made her own salad dressings and with a few basic ingredients, it's not that difficult. Another chapter that I particularly enjoyed was the one on Sauces. This is a book that any beginner or expert cook can enjoy.
