This one has got great main characters and a believable story line. Yes, it's very dark but so were the times. My only complaint would be the husband villain being a bit over the top. The author has been true to the customs of the Cheyennes, something that many other authors don't bother with. Chase and Stephanie go through hell, but the ending is worth it.

I've found Shirl Henke's work to be a bit patchy in quality; this is one of my favorites. It's a fairly dark book, not surprising given its setting in the middle of the wars between Native Americans and whites in the American West after the Civil War. The main characters are both believable and likeable, the sex scenes are nicely torrid, as is Henke's habit, and the action keeps you turning pages till it is over.
