Although the first black slaves arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, our knowledge of African American history is often limited to "lessons" in films. The Complete Idiot's Guide to African American History reveals a full portrait of black life, including familiar figures such as Harriet Tubman, W.E.B. DuBois, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
This book is great. It provides lots of details in regards to African American history but it explains it in a way that every one can understand.

Melba J. Duncan's new book is a must read for anyone interested in American history. Too often, books about the history of Africans in America fail to mention the significant contributions of Africans. In spite of great hardships, Africans propelled forward with such remarkable spirit; this book highlights those achievements. Melba Duncan looks at where we came from, where we are, and most importantly, where we are going and focuses on the importance of education, entrepreneurship, and strategy. I highly recommend this book to all!
