I read THE CHRISTMAS KITE when it was first released in 2003. Gayle Gaymer Martin not only gives us a wonderful story but also an excellent portrait of a child with Down syndrome. I can vouch for that, because I am the mother of a child who has Down syndrome. It's always exciting for a parent of a child who has a developmental disability to see children like theirs represented in the media and when the depiction is as well done as this, it's a delight. If you have no particular interest in children who have developmental disabilities, don't worry. It's still a great read. This book is on my list to give to several people for Christmas this year. Thank you so much, Gayle!
Great Story with a Happy Ending

When the world has started to become alittle "much", take the time to read this book, it is a fast enjoyable read that will give you alittle perspecitive on other things that could go on in this life. The book is about a young widowed mother who has a down syndrom son. They live by the beach and one day the boy see a man flying his kite. He is so excited he runs to him. The man Jordan is a very private person and he insists they get off his private property. It isn't until later in the day that the boy starts to warm his heart alittle and he runs into the pair again, this time, talking with them The story evolved into a friendship with these characters and how they each helped each other out of personal crisis. Also thru the love of God and how they both returned to church. It is a partial love story and the characters are portrayed in a very loving and calm manner. I recommend this one too!

I loved this story! It is written with warmth, gentleness and love but at the same time great realism. The reader experiences every emotion imaginable! , from laughter to tears to fear for Mac, the little boy in this story. The story also has a happy ending which is always wonderful. I would recommend this book to everyone!
