The plan of this volume of commentary on the New English Bible text of three Old Testament books follows the pattern established by the New Testament series of Cambridge Bible Commentaries on the New... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is an excellent pocket-sized commentary on three of the most important (and exciting) prophets. The texts are reprinted in full and McKeating's comments are excellent - an interesting view into the history behind these oracles. Hosea might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Amos and Micah have never been more relevant than now. It's a crying shame and dark disgrace that the church with its lectionary reading cycle continues the tradition of silencing these prophets. This was the first of the Cambridge Commentaries I bought, and the series has yet to disappoint me. I can't say the same for any other commentary series except the Old Testament Library (a good next step, if you enjoy this book, is to track down the trilogy by James Luther Mays). Plus these are smaller and cheaper than Anchor or Word.
