Some excellent food to energize your mind

Good puzzles are excellent food for the mind, by thinking them through and considering all approaches the mental skills are sharpened, making you better at all other intellectual tasks. The puzzles in this collection are truly challenging, often forcing you to think "outside the box", a skill often crucial to solving the problems you encounter in the real world. Some of them also involve a bit of humor, helping you cope with the frustration you may experience when the solution eludes you.

I was an avid follower of Barry's column in the Telegraph (in the days when they had one) and when this book came out in 1994 it was like a breath of fresh air. Sadly, it's now out of print but it still seems to pop up from time to time in second hand bookstores on the net. I've been collecting (and reviewing) puzzle books for over fifty years and for originality and wit it's one of the prizes of my collection.
