What you didn't learn in Psyc 101

I've been using this text for several years in an advanced counseling class and my students just love it. It goes where no text has gone exposing how cultural biases and mores have shaped both our theories of mental illness and how we treat them. Bankart tackles topics from demonology to moral therapy, he reveals the fraud in Freud, and exposes many unsung heroes and heroines who have helped to shape modern psychotherapy. He illustrates some of the psychotherapeutic principles by sharing humorous anectdotes from his own experience as a therapist. A delight to read, the information is as current today as when it first came out.
An Excellent Overview of Psychology

I read this book for my undergrad senior seminar class. I found it not only enjoyable but I also learned a lot from it. C. P. Bankhart covers practically every aspect of the history of the talking cure in psychology including both western and eastern views. His personal stories and experences enhance the text in both aiding the explaination of the topic and making the text more personal and enjoyable. The way that C. P. Bankhart has written this book mirrors the way that he teaches his courses, thus making it even more enjoyable read for someone who has actually had him as a professor.
