Subjectivity versus the Main Stream Culture

This study examines subjectivity in selected plays of Clifford Odets, August Wilson and Milcha Sanchez-Scott. It examines subjectivity as it appears in Odets' selected play, Awake and Sing as he explores the socio-cultural elements of his Jewish identity. It also discusses Wilson's play The Piano Lesson in which he reveals and addresses his African-American identity by employing different devices of African cultural traditions. Then, the study deals with Sanchez-Scott's The Cuban Swimmer, in which the playwright explores her Latin-American culture from a feminist point of view. The study ends by proving that the three playwrights managed to portray their own subjectivities in addition to the cultural identities of their fellow people.
