Good alternative to Junie B. Jones

Girls love magic and horses and this series combines them both. In each book, a young girl rides on a magical carousel and is transported to a different time and place. There, she must solve a problem. The story lines are simple and comprehensible for early readers yet the writing lacks flavor and style. These are mass produced books designed for young pony crazy girls. Will it work? I'm not so sure that all girls will get hooked enough by this series to keep reading past the second book. However, it is a sweet alternative to Junie B. Jones!
