Orphaned at a young age, Ben has worked hard all his life for one singular goal - to be a spaceman, and travel to Mars. On the day of his graduation, Ben is pleased to discover that his friend (and the closest thing he has to family), is sitting in the audience. Ben has known Stardust Charlie, since he was a young child, and he's the reason why Ben became a cadet. But the Charlie standing before him is much older, tireder, weaker. He's aged too much, and now looks like an old man. During the next twenty-four hours, Ben and Charlie catch up. Ben has a lot on his mind during that time. He's deeply in love with his girlfriend, and proposes to her. He realizes that he must make a very important decision - fly into space as planned, or accept a teaching job so he can make a family with his fiancee. It is the biggest decision of his life.
