One of the better summaries on spaceflight that I have come across. Each subject is divided into two page spreads which gives the basic outline of a mission or subject and then gives a 'What if' scenario which goes somewhat beyond the standard descriptions and explores what might have happened if history had turned out differently. Very insightful. Good photos and artwork. Just a couple of criticisms. In the First Steps in Space section they cover all the manned missions of the era but for some mysterious reason have missed out the Gemini 3-7 missions, surely an important period with the first rendesvous, long duration mission and American EVA occuring. Also in the Mars and Venus section they have given a whole two page spread to the failed Beagle 2 mission which was quite adequately covered in the Mars Express section. I look foward to seeing future editions of this book covering the recent Mars probes.

lots of photos with easy to read entries of mankind's entry into space. great for recreational reading, middle school research source or start for more in depth research. fascinating subject.
