The Bible is filled with inspiring stories of unlikely candidates God chose to quietly change eternity. This bestselling compilation in one volume contains five novellas about such people―men who stood behind heroes of the faith. Aaron. Caleb. Jonathan. Amos. Silas.
Each faithfully sought God in the shadows of His chosen leaders. They answered God's call to serve without recognition or fame. And they gave everything, knowing their reward might not come until the next life. Be challenged by these faithful men from both the Old Testament and the New Testament whose stories we must never forget.Aaron―the priest who stood in Moses' shadow but had the courage to cover his brother's fears as they led the nation of IsraelCaleb―the warrior whose words stirred men's hearts and brought God's people to the Promised LandJonathan―the prince whose humility led him to befriend the man who would become king in his placeAmos―the prophet who heard when God called and spoke to a nation unwilling to listenSilas―the scribe who worked alongside the early apostles, surrendering his wealth to record God's Word, even as those around him were silencedBeloved Christian author Francine Rivers brings Scripture and history to life in these well-researched stories of spiritual leaders. Each novella includes an in-depth Bible study perfect for personal reflection or group discussion.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading each story about Godly men of the Bible! Reading the story I would recall the scriptures from the Bible and like a puzzle the pieces would falling to place! This left me with a feeling that these were men created by God for a Devine purpose with human feelings and faults but encouraged forward by God! Even though these stories are fictional, the characters are not. Reading this book has given me a greater understanding of God's word and I feel that His message is clearer having read Sons of Encouragement. Whenever I read one of Francine Rivers books I know I am going to be fed because they also always have me jumping between the pages of her book and the pages of my Bible. Isn't that what biblical fiction should do? Francine never disappoints. I am usually hard-pressed to name a favorite, but the story about Amos touched me so deeply. I had previously read the biblical account, but this time Francine's story had me digging and growing, hungry for the next verse in scripture of this remarkable book of the Bible
