Navajo medicine man Lucas Tso had a special gift--psychic powers, coupled with vivid dreams about a mysterious woman. But when he came face-to-face with her, he wasn't prepared for the feelings that stirred within him. FBI agent Teal Benaly was investigating a murder on the reservation, and Lucas wanted to protect her from the evil shapeshifters that had declared war on the Navajo people. Dark forces tempted him to their side, and he'd need Teal's help--and her love-- to keep him alive.
Hands down, Lucas Tso is my favorite character in this entire "Brotherhood/Skinwalker" series. He is a Traditionalist, an Iron Man athlete, and a well known artist. He also has the gift of second-sight. From childhood, his ability to read thoughts has brought ridicule--even from his own cousins. As an adult his gift allows him to contribute to the Brotherhood causes--even though others still think he's strange. When he suddenly loses that ability, he loses his self worth. He feels he's no longer of value to the Brotherhood. Teal, meanwhile, struggles with her own identity issues. A Navajo raised in an Anglo world, she finds the Traditionalists hard to deal with, until she begins to fall in love with Lucas. This book isn't just about two people falling in love; it isn't just about good vs evil; it's about how a loss of self esteem, and lack of identity can be healed using hidden talents, one of which is love, that can be drawn upon to restore them both to harmony and balance. Having both Lucas and Teal end up as bird talkers is an added bonus!
