I consider "The Outiders" an instant classic I love this book. It was much better than the movie. "That was then, this is now" is also a terrific book the end is the best part I love it. It was so shocking and unexpected. I love the way she put Ponyboy in each book. the way she mixed the characters and town was just perfect I love them both.THis book puts them both in together which is just perfect.
Life, Death, Gangs, Drugs and Loyalty

Hinton gives an excellent viewpoint from inside the life of high school, juvenile delinquents, the "Greasers", that feud with the popular kids, the "Socs". The characters in "The Outsiders" carry over their problems into "That Was Then, This Is Now." Set in the 1960's, both novels deal with life issues such as drugs, peer pressure, gangs, etc., which someone of any age can relate to. These are the type of books that a reader doesn't want to end. If reading the books aren't enough, both have been made into excellent motion pictures. The best feature of both of these novels is to know that the author, S.E. Hinton, is a WOMAN!
