Time to clear out the scrap bin

What to do with all the scraps you just can't throw away? Why grab a coy of SAVE THE SCRAPS and make one of the 15 quilt projects inside! The author begins the book by explaining how to organize the scraps and then goes on to how to choose fabrics. Of course, most every quilt book has a technique and tool section and Ms. Bong's book is no different. Each pattern has a full page color photo, finished block and finished quilt size before the instructions begin. A materials list and a cutting char are next. Instructions for making the blocks are next and there are lots of graphics to allow the quilter to see what he written words are saying. Assembly, borders and finishing suggestions make up the rest of the project's information. I found "tip" notes occasionally in some of the patterns but I didn't find any skill levels. A three paragraph bio of Ms. Bong finishes up the book. If you have a lot of scraps, this book will be a great help in deciding what to do with them.

There's a beautiful quilt, "Geese in the Garden" where you sew strips onto a triangle muslin base and then add squares later on to make stars. I've never seen this technique before and it really makes sense to me now. There are 15 projects in all. I was impressed with how these patterns differ from most other scrap quilt books I've seen. And "Geese in the Garden" is one of the most beautiful patterns I've run across in a very long time.

I love this book and browse through it often. The quilts are beautiful and inspiring. I haven't made any of the quilts yet, but plan to make a couple from it including the one pictured on the back. This one features a pineapple looking pattern with light and dark stars. The book is good for newbies and experienced quilters.

This is a wonderful book for putting scraps to good use. There are good tips for sorting, storing and organizing them plus helpful information on which ones are compatible in a quilt. I was drawn to the cover picture of the Crossed Tracks quilt and that will be my first one to sew from this book. All patterns are template free and rotary cut however be aware that about half of the patterns are cut at 45 or 60 degree angles and will be more of a challenge.
