In Heir Apparent Karan Singh covered the first 22 years of his life. This volume covers the period from August 1953 to March 1967. During this period, the author observed and participated in major national developments such as the wars with China in 1962 and with Pakistan in 1965. He also witnessed the passing away of two Prime Ministers, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964 and Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966, and the rise to power of Indira Gandhi. As Head of State, he was closely associated with a number of important developments in Jammu and Kashmir.
