Become A ''Natural Born'' Leader. The art of leadership can be learned. It's all in Running Things: The Art of Making Things Happen, by well-renowned management expert Phil Crosby. Whether you want to run a boy scout troop or a multinational corporation, you'll discover the secrets of organizing and motivating people in an entertaining, fun-to-read style, You'll get practical guidance on: how to increase productivity and eliminate turnover; how to step forward and take control of any group; how to get people to put out 110% every time; how to guarantee that things will always happen on time; how to establish goals people want to meet; how to keep creative people happy; how to avoid personal ''burnout''; how to make everyone feel they're a part of the team; how to handle change quickly and painlessly.
This book by Phil Crosby, a prolific writer on management and quality from the 80's, has quite a few tidbits of wisdom. I tend to view Crosby as a management guru in quality guru's clothing, and his management focused books tend to be better than his quality focused ones. The reader would probably be served to looking through the "Guidelines for Browsers" section at the end of the book first. This section, a staple in Crosby's books, provides a list of quotes and "soundbites" summarizing the contents by page. While the material is getting dated, the principles remain timeless - a good read for the new manager, or for the business leader looking for some timeless wisdom.
