Hank Hayes was the leader of a band of outlaws hidden away in a deep, dark canyon. Jim Wall is the stranger who had lived on both sides of the law, and didn't care which one. Yes, the plot may seem trite and conventional by today's standard, but Zane Grey knew how to tell a story and keep you turning the page.
