Range of No Return is one of those books a person can't put down once they start reading it. The characters and the situations they encounter are real and complicated, just like life really is. D.B. Newton is known for such writing, and for the way he places his characters in these types of activities where nothing is ever simple and easy. And I learned something new about Newton: that he wrote under six different names. I only knew of Dwight Bennett but I now can add to my list, Hank Mitchum, Dan Temple, Ford Logan, Clement Hardin, and Dave Sand. I know the Dwight Bennett and the Clement Hardin books are as good as those under D. B. Newton, about the rest I cannot say for sure, but they most likely are just as good. So, about this book, Range of No Return, it is the story of a man come home to begin anew on the ranch he left after being accused of cattle rustling, but since his accuser is now dead, he feels he can return; yet, the town has doubts about his innocence. When a neighboring rancher is killed, suspicion instantly turns to Herb Cole, especially with the dying man's last breath he names Cole as his killer. This time, though, Cole will not run, he will stand up and fight. Get this book. It's highly enjoyable and readable.
