Being a book that is part of the Companions for the Journey series, the reader is befriended and strengthened by the strong faith of John Cardinal Newman. It is like having a wise Grandfather as a role model. One doesn't need to be a Catholic to benefit from the wisdom contained here. Whether enjoyed in a group setting or used alone, the meditations nourish and stir the readers to open their hearts and minds to what is and what could be in terms of their own spiritual selves and relationship to God. Weidner gives us insight into Newman's human struggles with faith and spirituality, (no different than our own today), then provides the tools for us to carry ourselves forward through reflections and scripture.
