I was looking for a book to give my teenage son that would both appeal to his age-appropriate interests and at the same time was a good story that would further encourage him to discover the joy of reading. With "Philo Mae" I hit a home run. Lalor accurately captures the adolescent experience and dialogue and also provides a sensitive and insightful treatment of the effects and aftermath of a teenage suicide. That alone was worth the price of the book. Not only can I safely recommend this book to my son but I thoroughly enjoyed it for myself. Hopefully, this talented story-teller will write more novels.
