I first read this book in 1979, toward the end of President Carter's term, a time when some of the moves toward "creative disintegration" and "deep organic remembrance" Roszak describes here were being given at least half a chance by citizens, corporations, and even the government. Then came the landslide of forgetfulness under the Reagan administration, when excess, surfeit, heedlessness and materialism were valorized as our divine right.I urge you to read this book again, or for the first time, and remember once more the deep identity of person and planet.
