Prior to the boom years the City of Roses attracted the "exhibitions" featuring Suzanne Lenglen, Bill Tilden, Pancho Gonzales, Jack Kramer and others with matches played on converted ice skating rinks or in livestock pavilions. World Team Tennis brought more tennis "stars" to the City.
