A Perfect Introduction to Handfastings and Great Suggestions on Ceremony Blending

Though somewhat short, this book offers a great introduction to handfastings as well as resources for those already familar with the practice. It includes a brief history and great suggestions for blending a handfasting into other religious wedding ceremonies. It also includes some history behind different wedding traditions, color symbolism and date choices. There is also a section on blending your own incense and several couples' meditations based on focus and whether the partners are both pagan, mixed or both non-pagan. This is an incredibly comprehensive book for how short it is and is also fun and informative. My non-pagan fiancee and I are using this book to help plan our own handfasting and it has been incredibly helpful.
More Than I Expected

This book was so much more than I ever expected! Full of information and with a level of normalcy that I have not seen in any other Handfasting book. Rev. Dr. Kendra is sensitive, practical, and highly educated. She completely understands what it means to be in love and how to maintain a beautiful relationship with your loved one and your Deity of choice. If spirituality was missing from every other Handfasting book - it certainly wasn't from this one!! Thank you Rev. Dr. Kendra. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether they were being handfasted or not!

This is the perfect book for any couple, whether planning a wedding or not. It not only describes handfastings, weddings, and mixed ceremonies, but provides advice, spells, and wisdom for anyone in love. There is a definite focus on how to blend religions, and options for Pagan or mixed couples. It is full of practical and beautiful spells, meditations, recipes, and ceremonies. It contains a lot of information for such a small book! While it may not be the only wedding guide you use, it is definitely the perfect place to start. It is also a very easy read, not overwhelming or too technical. I highly recommend this book to anyone in love, or just a romantic at heart!

I just finished reading Rev. Dr. Kendra's book on the way to work this morning. Wow!! Now I want to plan a handfasting! I should probably start by saying that I am single, and there is very little chance of me being handfasted in the near future. Generally, books on marriage/handfasting do nothing for the single person (and arguably, rightly so), but this book was different. There were bits and pieces I could extract and apply to my own life, even though I am not currently in a relationship, which I believe makes this book a rare treasure. I loved to flow of the book. There was a lot of information in there, but it wasn't overwhelming. I also loved all of the historical tidbits for each of the traditions as well as the metaphysical meanings behind everything. The one that particular struck me was the Samhain themed wedding....I could literally visualized it down to the smallest detail! I consider this book to be a major asset in my metaphysical library. Kudos!!

Rev Dr Kendra has obviously looked at this beautiful topic from many different angles and has brought the theme of religious tolerance in a non-threatening way. Pagans and non-pagans alike should read this before considering any type of marriage or handfasting. Great work Dr. Hovey! I hope to see more of your work in the future.
