This story was one of the most unpredictable I have ever read, I knew Lorenzo Montorsoli fell in love with Bronwen, but I was floored when the woman his Aunt Anna turned on Bronwen. I fully expected her to try to make a match between Lorenzo and Bronwen, to keep Bronwen from ever taking Nicky back to the UK, instead she tried to come between Bronwen and her son Nicky. Wow, big mistake, I loved how 10-yr-old Nicky took up for his mom against all odds, and even knowing they would be going back to abject poverty, Nicky would rather be with his mom than live in riches without her. Lorenzo's taking a beating from Bronwen and not hitting her back, or trying to kiss the life out of her (which most writers would have done) He simply stood like a man, later he told Bronwen he was sorry for misjudging her, because of an earlier experience he saw all woman in the same light (except his Aunt Anne, and his sister Elena) I knew Bronwen was in love with Lorenzo when she was so insulted by his low opinion of her. Other wise why should she care. But Anna was really slick and soon she had Bronwen just where she wanted her, Anna's idea was to take over Nicky as she had Nicky's dad Ruffo. I also expected Bronwen to find she was carrying Lorenzo's child and having to prove the baby was Lorenzo's with his wicked Aunt plotting against her. There were so many twists from the norm that I couldn't put the book down. I also liked the fact that Nicky made up almost 40% of the book, instead of just being a cardboard figure. From the back of the book: 'Caution:Danger Ahead...Once upon a time Bronwen Montorsoli, a young widow, struggled to support her son with odd singing jobs. But then a social worker accused her of filling her boy's head with grandiose fantiasies of being related to an Italian prince. Just as her son, Nicky, was to be placed in "protective care." a towering stranger appeared at her dreary London flat. Identifying himself as her brother-in-law, Prince Lorenzo Montorsoli, he whisked them off to Italy, claiming Nicky as his heir. But who would protect Bronwen from Lorenzo's magnetic presence? And who would protect Lorenzo from the ethereal Welsh beauty who defiantly declared herself his enemy for life?'
