"A spunky heroine, buoyant text, and irresistible illustrations make this easy reader a real winner," School Library Journal said of the first book about May Belle and her good friend Ogre. Now they are back, and they are still best friends. But there is just one problem-Ogre eats everything! What do you do with a friend who eats your food, your flowers, the notes you write him, and even the pictures you paint? Beginning readers will delight in Ogre's antics and May Belle's clever sense of fun as she keeps her unruly friend in line.
May Belle's songs make the book!! Just ask my grandson ...

My grandson fell in love with this duo in May Belle and the Ogre. In fact, he borrowed it from our local library 2 times, for 6 weeks, because he enjoyed it so much!! Being a doting Grandma I searched for another Ogre book. The pictures and story come together in such a delightful way that adults and children can enjoy all 3 stories in each book. In this volume everything becomes food to the Ogre. He eats May Belle's tulips, so she teaches him how to cook a stew. In the second story he eats her note, so she teaches him to read. And so it goes. Ogre is not a scary Ogre at all. He is delightfully funny. The songs truly make the story. My grandson especiallly loves to hear his mama sing them. I do hope that Bethany Roberts will write many more May Belle and Ogre books.
