This book was a perfect choice for me for two reasons: It is a brilliant story about how women feel when they get fed up with living up to what society tells them to do - and even more so in a Latin American country. And also it describes the exact fascination with Mexico that I am experiencing as a foreigner residing in it. The environment, the traditions, the views, the sounds and the sabor. All in all an excellent book!
Great ! buensima as always...

As in every book from Marcela Serrano you get involved since the first pages and the story transports you to her world. This book will show you the diferences from every latin american country and their beauty. This was the third book from Serrano that I read, and today I'm finishing the last one. She's great!
feminist detective fiction

Nuestra Senora de la Soledad is a fabulously written detective novel with a twist. It graciously transcends the pre-established boundaries of detective fiction. While containing all of the key elements of the traditional detective novel, Nuestra Senora de la Soledad endows them with a new vitality. This novel, rich in dualities of all sorts, takes place in both Chile and Mexico. The detective, a single mother, self-identifies with the object of her investigation (the "victim") throughout the novel. The "victim" is a refreshingly free-spirited middle-aged woman author who has disappeared, almost without a trace. The author uses metafiction throughout the novel to not only retell past events, but also to foretell the future. The result is an entrancing novel that is quick to read but leaves a lasting impression. This is a novel that the reader will ponder long after the last page has been turned. A fabulous work!
