For when Zoe discovered that her brother had become the target of the nefarious League of Jewelled Men, she courageously endeavored to protect him--and the man who had come to claim her heart. . . . Patricia Veryan is a winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Romantic Times
This is the fifth book in her Jeweled Men series. We meet the heroine Zoe who becomes the love interest of our old friend Lieutenant Cranford. As the pair battles with the fanatical League in order to save their preceious England, they are joined by the characters we have met and loved in the previous books. This tale, set in Georgian England, is well told - with the suspense and mystery enhanced, but not overpowered by the inevitable romance. Alone or with the series, it is an enjoyable read guaranteed to make you laugh and sigh. And a warning, this book will hook you and you will end up reading the entire series over and over!!!
A Wonderful Addition to the Jewelled Men Series!

In my opinion, the Jewelled Men series is Veryan's best, and this book does her credit. Veryan crafted very likeable and (more importantly) very believable characters in Peregrine and Zoe. The relationship wasn't phony, and there was no hint of the lustful passion that fills so many romance novels today. The book is filled with much speculation and adventure, but it also allows insight to what life was like in the late 1740s. My only complaint for this book is that I wish August, Jamie, and Gwen had shown up more. And just who is the infamous Squire? Read this book to find a clue. Also, this book is a must if one wants to read "The Mandarin of Mayfair" and "The Riddle of the Shipwrecked Spinster." A necessity for all Veryan fans everywhere!
A wonderful exciting read!

A wonderful and exciting read! Patricia Veryan has done it again! I couldn't put the book down. Excitement, love, mayhem. I especially love how she can express such desire between the characters without containing the smut of regular romance novels. This book is worth the time. But be careful, once you start you may never put it down.
