Historical fiction can often be very dry, but not this book. It is a brutally honest depiction of the abuse and oppression slaves had to endure during this period in history. Readers will route for Henry as he pushes on through life and remains determined to find freedom. An amazing book overall - I highly recommend this book for all Young Adults and adults alike!

In this fictionalized biography she uses historical detail to recreate the life of Henry Bibb, newspaper editor and abolitionist based in Canada.
