this book definitely inspired me. just purchased yarn -online- of course, to make a sweater from the book. beautiful images of garments. suggest rather advanced pattern reading skills to tackle majority of projects. each square is easy to create but directions are complex sounding. will be creating my second block design garment. i may post as grandma but i appreciate contemporary knitting yarns and tools.

Try this with a K.I.S.S.

It is indeed magic and a delightful innovation to tempt long-time knitters. These authors have brought this technique alive within the knitting community and this beautiful book is as a good a place to start as any. A few things you need to know - (the K.I.S.S. rule of Keep it simple) modules are easy and fun to make but they extend the time a project takes - maybe even by double. Also, this book presents too many riches for the beginning knitter, who can come away believing this is too complex to master. As with any new technique, everyone can learn this technique and most will love it, providing you pick one of their easier projects and keep it simple until you learn the properties of the modules: e.g. they don't all end up exactly the same size even if you are careful to check gauge, properties of different yarns will change not only the size but the 'squareness' of modules, you can't substitute yarns and stitches unless you do swatches. To their credit, the authors of course advise you to check gauge, do swatches, etc. but they don't give one piece of advice needed to prevent heartache: do a simple project or two before attempting the mouthwatering, expensive, and complex beauties in the book.
