Medicine: A Primary Care Approach: Saunders Text and Review Series

This remarkably readable and accessible resource encapsulates the important knowledge and skills required in today's primary care practice. Focusing on the most frequently encountered outpatient problems, it's an ideal one-stop reference for students who are doing their primary care, ambulatory medicine, internal medicine, or family medicine rotations...as well as a superb handbook and review tool for primary care residents and practitioners.
The many authors include practicing primary care physicians as well as medical educators, and represent both internal medicine and family medicine. The result is an uncommonly authoritative, multidisciplinary overview of the field. Each chapter begins with a case history, followed by a brief list of questions. This problem-based approach helps readers assess their knowledge to develop the critical thinking skills required in actual practice.
A pathophysiology section in each chapter emphasizes the connections between basic sciences and clinical medicine. This allows students to easily integrate new clinical information with the knowledge presented during the first two years of medical school. Questions at the end of most chapters focus students on further research in the field.
In addition to vital "how-to" clinical skills, coverage also includes such important topics as doctor-patient communication, health economics, medical ethics in the ambulatory arena, cultural concerns, cost-effective care, team approach, and occupational and environmental health issues. What's more, and entire 8-chapter section is exclusively devoted to the subject of prevention.

a good reference source

Nice book to prepare for usmle step 3; the only thing I would have to comment on is that the index is not that strong and that's a little unfortunate for a reference book. Otherwise very helpful.
