I homeschooled my daughter using these and she has loved doing them. I originally got them because I used them myself as a child in the late eightys at school. I wanted something simple, fun and phonics based. I didn't like sing, spell, read very much because of all the extra junk they add. This is a no fuss easy workbook program. I purchased the teacher edition but didn't use it much, if your good with phonics then you could probably get by with out it. If your short on time and want something simple this is it.

As a homeschooling mother of 9, I've found this series to be one of the finest available for teaching and reinforcing phonics skills in a logical sequence and simple format. The children enjoy the cute graphics, cleverly formulated activities and using the skills they've learned. Hurrah for MCP and for literate children!

This is a very old series of consumable workbooks that is beginning to be tauted among home educators. I used it in the early eighties and it isn't appreciatively different than what I used as a child more than forty years ago. It has plenty of wonderful pictures and concentrates on learning that leads to proper reading ability. The illustrations aren't as wild and hard to identify as many modern workbooks. It's a complete year"s worth of work though my children always rush through faster. My young twins just finished the same course, so we've a continuity through two decades and had the same success times five. It's fun and gives a real sense of accomplishment without triteness.
